Russia records rise in COVID-19 cases

A sharp increase in the number of patients diagnosed with coronavirus infection has been recorded in the Russian Federation.

Over the past week, the number of cases has increased by 31.4%, the operational headquarters reported on Tuesday, August 20.

The latest data shows that the incidence rate per 100,000 population has risen to 9.21,RIA Novosti reports.

The incidence rate has increased in 71 regions, with the situation in 17 of them being the most serious.

Over the past seven days, 1,409 people in 43 regions of the Russian Federation were hospitalized with COVID-19. This is 28.1% more than the week before.

The COVID-19 pandemic was declared worldwide in March 2020. The high rate of spread of coronavirus continued until 2021 inclusive.
