Russia proposes to declare moratorium on issuing citizenship to migrants

Minister of Internal Policy of the Kaluga Region Oleg Kalugin commented on the receipt of Russian citizenship by migrants.

He proposed banning the issuance of citizenship to migrants for 25-30 years.

In his opinion, a temporary moratorium should be declared in order to conduct an audit of foreigners in the Russian Federation, writes RBC .

Moreover, Kalugin proposes to extend this practice for those arriving in the Russian Federation from Central Asia and Transcaucasia.

He also called the existing law enforcement practice insufficient.

Kalugin also spoke in favor of conducting an audit of all migrants from Central Asia and Transcaucasia who received Russian citizenship.

He called for limiting the rights of migrants to obtain Russian citizenship for at least 25-30 years.

A review needs to be conducted with regard to non-native peoples who have received citizenship.
