It has become known how things have been going in Russia recently with drinking citizens.
In recent years, the country has shed its stigma as the world's heaviest drinking country.
This conclusion was made by the Russian Minister of Health Oleg Salagai, speaking at a press conference dedicated to the All-Russian Day of Sobriety, RIA Novosti reports.
The head of the department recalled that back in the 90s of the last century it was common to say that Russia was one of the heaviest drinking countries in the world. And back then this expression was not far from the truth.
However, the country is now recording a decrease in the number of diseases associated with alcohol abuse.
For example, alcohol psychosis has decreased by 11.6%, alcoholism by 4.4%. The number of poisonings from alcohol-containing products is also decreasing. Since 2018, 22% fewer cases have been recorded.
To prove his words, Salagai cited statistics for 2023. There are about 8.4 liters of alcoholic beverages per adult per capita.
At the same time, in the 90s the figures were double digits.
