The Russian Ambassador made a statement regarding cooperation between Russia and Indonesia.

Both countries are moving towards gradual simplification of visa regimes.

The Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, made this statement in an interview with TASS .

According to the diplomat, the idea of a complete abolition of visas is constantly in the air. However, such a step requires gradual implementation.

He recalled that Indonesian colleagues asked Russian authorities to introduce the possibility of obtaining a visa on arrival.

However, since such an option is not provided for in Russian legislation, such a step is currently not feasible.

As a first step, it was decided to first simplify the visa regime between the two countries.

Subsequently, such a decision could become the beginning of the path to a visa-free regime, thanks to which Russians will stop wasting time collecting documents required for obtaining a visa.

Tolchenov noted that this decision can only be implemented at the level of a bilateral intergovernmental agreement, and therefore the Indonesian side should also be interested in it.
