Russia plans to reintroduce mandatory technical inspection of passenger cars from 2026.

Representatives of the Russian Union of Auto Insurers and the All-Russian Union of Insurers shared their opinions on this issue.

Information about this was published on the website of the Izvestia newspaper.

According to the analytical agency "Autostat", the average age of passenger cars in the Russian Federation is about 15 years. Approximately 70 percent of all passenger cars are older than 10 years.

In April, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed approving additional indicators for monitoring vehicle technical inspections.

These measures include equipping vehicles with tachographs. The diagnostic card must indicate the make, model and serial number of the tachograph.

Professor of the Automobile and Road Engineering Faculty of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering Stanislav Evtyukov emphasizes the importance of conducting independent technical inspections.

He also noted that it is necessary to pay attention to systems that ensure active and passive safety of vehicles.
