The former deputy minister of defense asked the court to review the decision on the preventive measure.

Timur Ivanov wanted to be placed under house arrest or limited to a ban on certain actions.

As grounds, the general’s lawyers indicated that he took part in military operations and has state awards, TASS reports.

The court took these facts into account, but granted the investigators' motion to extend the arrest period. Ivanov was left in the pretrial detention center until September 23.

The court explained that the facts presented by the defense were not sufficient grounds for changing the preventive measure.

The court took into account that, once free, Ivanov could take advantage of the opportunity to escape investigation and responsibility.

They also admitted that the officer could obstruct the investigation if he were released.

Based on all the facts, the court refused to mitigate the accused party's preventive measure.

The former deputy minister's arrest was extended for another two months. Meanwhile, the investigation into his case continues.
