The number of migrants who failed the Russian language exam has increased tenfold.

If at the beginning of 2024 only 3% could not pass the test, then by May 30% had already received an unsatisfactory assessment of their knowledge.

RIA Novosti reported this on Wednesday, July 3, citing the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science.

By May 2024, the number of migrants who failed the Russian language exam increased 10-fold, the department reported.

It is noted that since April, the administrations of Russian universities have terminated agreements with private partners who previously administered the exam to foreigners.

Now the knowledge of migrants is assessed only by specialists from government platforms.

The authorities decided to tighten not only control over knowledge of the Russian language among migrants, but also to revise sanctions for gross violations of the law.

The State Duma prepared a bill with offenses for which acquired citizenship should be revoked. But the government rejected it.

Earlier it became known that the State Duma would revise the law on deprivation of citizenship for serious crimes.
