If a new strain of the virus is discovered, a new COVID-19 pandemic may emerge no sooner than in 7-10 years. TASS reports details, citing epidemiologist and RAS academician Gennady Onishchenko.

It is noted that global and national monitoring is currently being carried out.

According to Onishchenko, the predicted strains include Omicron and FLiRT. In addition, new strains may emerge.

He noted that an increase in the incidence rate was observed by autumn. The reason for this was seasonality.

The expert also said that in mid-August, many citizens will begin to come to the capital. During this period, a decrease in temperature is predicted, including coronavirus infection.

It is added that the elderly are at risk, so it is worth paying special attention to them.
