Consumer Union: 65 percent of cosmetics in Russia contain hazardous substances

The Consumer Union of Russia reported that 65 percent of cosmetics in Russia contain substances that are hazardous to human health.

76 percent of cosmetic products do not contain information about contraindications for use.

This information was provided by the National Union for the Protection of Consumer Rights, as reported by the Prime agency.

The agency conducted relevant research, analyzing the mass-market cosmetics market.

Critical situation

The Consumer Union reminded about the list of components that are prohibited from being added and subsequently used in perfumery and cosmetic products.

The agency emphasized: “There are 1,680 such substances in total. Their harm has long been proven, and in addition, a number of court cases have been conducted on them.”

It is also reported that only 332 substances are allowed to be added to cosmetics.

In addition, the consumer union pointed out that today every fifth cosmetic product is sold expired or without an expiration date.
