The doctor spoke about the invisible danger that lies in wait for lovers of mushrooms and berries collected in the forest.
Deputy Chief Physician of the Dubna Hospital, infectious disease specialist Sergei Ryabov shared a comment on this topic.
In an interview with Radio 1 , the expert warned about the risk of botulism when eating poorly processed mushrooms and berries.
The doctor explained that the pathogens of this disease live on forest fruits in the form of spores.
Once in an oxygen-free environment, the pathogen begins to develop and poison food products with its toxins.
Mushrooms and berries should be thoroughly washed and heat treated. Before preparing preparations from them, it is recommended to boil the products. This destroys botulism spores.
Ryabov added that buying canned goods sold along the roads is a real “Russian roulette.”
There is no precise information about the conditions and how well the products were processed. Consuming such canned food carries a risk of botulism.
