ExxonMobil has decided to protect its trademarks in Russia.

An American company that left Russia has filed about 20 lawsuits in Russian arbitration courts over the illegal use of its trademarks .

Most of the claims concern individual entrepreneurs, Kommersant reports.

ExxonMobil claims that its exclusive rights to trademarks are being violated.

In particular, the company names the brands of motor oils Mobil 1, Mobil Ultra, Mobil Super and Delvac and the image of Pegasus as its trademark.

As of October 20, the courts had fully satisfied three claims and partially satisfied four.

Fines for violations are minor.

ExxonMobil became the first Western oil and gas company to decide to defend its trademarks in the Russian Federation.

Kristina Timofeeva, a lawyer in the Intellectual Property practice at K&P.Group, believes that Exxon wants to protect its reputation from counterfeiting.
