A bill to rename Rostov has been submitted to the State Duma

We are talking about renaming the city of Rostov to Rostov the Great.
RIA Novosti reports this with reference to a document posted in the Duma database.
It is noted that the Yaroslavl Regional Duma came up with this idea. It was its parliamentarians who proposed renaming the Russian city Rostov the Great.
The Russian Cabinet of Ministers supported this bill in its official response to the proposal. The ministers believe that the renaming of Rostov is a confirmation of the traditionally used name.
Therefore, all that remains is to secure this name at the state level.
In addition, the name Rostov the Great will testify to the recognition of the city’s status as a significant historical and cultural center of Russia.
It is not specified when the State Duma will consider this bill.
