Actress Shelley Duvall, who played the leading role in the film "The Shining", has died

American film and television actress Shelley Duvall has died at the age of 76.

The information about the artist's death was confirmed by her husband, director and screenwriter Dan Gilroy.

Duvall died in her sleep on July 11 at her home in Blanco, Texas, The Guardian reports.

It happened four days after her birthday – the actress turned 75 on July 7. Gilroy said Shelley died from complications caused by diabetes.

"She's been suffering too much lately," the deceased's husband shared.

Duvall is best known for her leading role in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, based on the book of the same name by Stephen King.

The actress also starred in the films Nashville, Three Women, Time Bandits, and Portrait of a Lady.

In the early 2020s, Duvall returned to film after retiring from acting to star in what would become her final film, Forest Hills, which is set to be released in 2023.
