Deputy Alexander Khinshtein stated that the future of YouTube in Russia depends “solely on him.”
The parliamentarian announced a further reduction in the speed of loading content on YouTube in the Russian Federation. But this will not affect everyone.
In his Telegram channel, Khinshtein said that by the end of this week, the speed of the video hosting service will drop to 40%. Next week – to 70%.
But the measure will only affect computer versions. It will not affect mobile device users, the deputy assured.
He explained that Russia is looking for ways to “teach a lesson” to the YouTube administration, but at the same time does not want to harm Russians who use the video hosting service.
Therefore, the decision was made to slow down only the computer versions, and not to touch the mobile ones, since in the summer most people use the second option.
Khinshtein pointed out that the Russian Federation is fighting against the YouTube administration, which continues to ignore Russian legislation and deletes the channels of artists and media outlets that express a point of view that is unfavorable to the West.
The deputy stressed that there are currently no plans to block the video hosting service in Russia. But everything could change if YouTube's management does not reconsider its position.
Khinshtein pointed out that the future of the Google platform depends entirely on the project's administration. There are alternatives in the Russian Federation (Rutube, VK Video), so the decision to block YouTube may be made in the future if nothing changes.
