Scientists have recorded a new powerful solar flare after a short “lull”.
Details were provided by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy (IKI RAS and ISTP SB RAS).
Solar activity began to increase around July 12. Over the past four days, scientists have registered more than 10 M-level flares (level 4 and 5).
In addition, two X-level flashes were recorded. This is the highest point in the measurement system. The second was stronger. It occurred at 16:30 Moscow time.
The power of the flare was estimated at X1.9, according to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory website .
So far, this is the strongest explosion on the Sun since May 14. Two months ago, an X8.7 flare occurred.
The new explosion is 4 times weaker, but so far it is the largest event on the Sun for the entire summer period, experts emphasized.
What the X1.9 outburst will bring to Earth remains to be seen. The location of the explosive center does not exclude the possibility that solar masses will be directed toward the planet.
