The populations of five countries in the world have the highest chance of surviving a nuclear winter in the event of a global conflict.

A study on this topic was conducted by scientists from New Zealand.

They modeled the consequences of a nuclear war between Russia and NATO countries. The results of the study were published in the journal Risk Analysis .

Continental Europe and Asia would suffer the most in this case. A nuclear winter would leave no chance for agriculture there.

But certain chances (probability up to 20%) will remain for states that are located on islands or peninsulas.

Living conditions here will be difficult, but people will still have a chance to survive.

Researchers have identified five countries where this likelihood is highest.

Four of them are located in the Pacific region: Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands.

Of the European countries, only Iceland has the highest chances.

According to scientists, it is here that people will retain some ability to farm in the conditions of a nuclear winter, which will allow them to avoid starvation.
