The European Organization for Nuclear Research has made a radical decision regarding Russian scientists.

From December 1, 2024, hundreds of scientists associated with Russian organizations will lose access to the Large Hadron Collider.

The decision is published in the journal Nature and could have implications for research in particle physics.

The operator of the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland will ban scientists linked to Russian organisations from accessing its facilities.

From 1 December 2024, these scientists will not be able to enter the CERN premises.

They will have to surrender their French and Swiss residence permits.

In order to continue research at CERN, scientists are being asked to sever ties with Russian institutes and move to work for foreign institutions.
