Scientists from Perm have named a waste product that will make Russian roads stronger.
The discovery could revolutionize the domestic road construction industry.
The proposal was shared by specialists from the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU), TASS reports.
Scientists claim that waste from soda production – sludge – can be used for road construction.
It is formed in large quantities during the production of soda ash. Scientists propose to introduce sludge into road construction. This will increase their strength by 6-18%.
Experts took into account the presence of chloride ions in the sludge. They may raise questions among environmentalists, as they are capable of polluting water and soil.
Scientists have found a solution. It is proposed to use fly ash, which is formed during the combustion of solid fuel and is captured in the filters of thermal power plants.
It can neutralize free chloride ions and protect the environment.
In addition, the sludge will eliminate the need for cement, which will reduce the carbon emissions generated during the creation of this material.
