In Russia, a domestic analogue of the Android mobile operating system is being developed.

The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, shared a comment on this topic.

According to the authorities, there will be two operating systems (OS) for mobile devices in the Russian Federation, Interfax reports.

The Aurora OS is designed to perform production tasks. It will run gadgets used by various specialists, including teachers and doctors.

The second OS will be more widespread. Its development is already underway. The possibility of creating a corresponding consortium is being discussed with representatives of the IT industry, Shadayev emphasized.

This system will become the Russian analogue of Android from Google.

The product is built on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), an open source OS project supported by Google.

Otherwise, the development will be Russian, so it is expected that the new system will have a higher level of security for working with personal information.

Shadayev added that by spring 2025 the fate of the project will become more certain. The idea is currently at the discussion stage.
