Google has released a statement indicating that it will no longer support versions of the Android operating system that are nearly 10 years old.
In particular, the Google Play services update for the affected devices will be cancelled.
The statement reads: “The gadgets themselves will continue to operate after this, but their security system will no longer be updated,” as reported by the ixbt portal.
Additionally, there may be incompatibility issues with some Google applications.
In particular, support for Android Lollipop will be cancelled.
Google explains that the move will allow the company's engineers to focus on more innovative developments.
The Google document explains: "We want to improve on more recent versions of the Android operating system."
It was previously reported that the update of the Android 4.4 OS, which was also called KitKat, had also stopped. Specifically, this happened in 2023.
