Scientists have reported that a strange polar vortex has been recorded in the skies over Antarctica.
According to researchers, this natural phenomenon has a significant impact on the Earth’s ozone layer.
The foreign scientific journal Live Science writes on this matter: “Usually in August of any year a giant hole appears in the ozone layer, which closes up quite quickly.”
However, in 2024, scientists say the hole still shows no signs of closing.
The researchers emphasized that the bald spot above the South Pole is still present in its almost original form.
Leading climate scientists who spoke out on the matter said the cause was sudden episodes of warming.
Scientists noted: “In July and August 2024, the air over Antarctica warmed up to almost 17 degrees, which is a very high figure.”
It is reported that such a temperature jump ultimately led to the depletion of the ozone layer, which will not last for a long time.
