Bisons were considered an endangered species just about a hundred years ago.
However, now, thanks to the measures taken to preserve the population of these animals, there are currently about nine thousand individuals living in the world.
As RIA Novosti journalists were told by the Russian Science Foundation, there is now an opportunity to significantly increase the bison population.
These animals currently live mainly in Belarus, Poland, Russia and Germany. Scientists assume that by 2080 the population will grow significantly and will amount to several hundred thousand heads.
To do this, it is necessary to resettle the animals in the north, and the current conditions will eventually become ideal for them. It is predicted that the bison will settle in the territory of Norway, Finland and Sweden, and will also live in the territories adjacent to the Barents and White Seas.
Animals have already begun to be transported to Yakutia, where the conditions of the Pleistocene Park have been recreated. At the moment, camels, elks, musk oxen and other species already live here.
