The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the words of the NATO representative about “preventive strikes” against Russia.

The Chairman of the Alliance Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, made a resonant proposal.

He said that NATO was no longer a defensive alliance.

Bauer stressed that the alliance members will not wait to be attacked, but instead could launch a "preemptive strike" against Russia.

“Apparently, they didn’t read the updated nuclear doctrine thoroughly,” RIA Novosti quotes Maria Zakharova’s response.

The document was updated in the wake of the West's decision to allow the use of its long-range weapons to strike Russian territory.

Vladimir Putin emphasized that updating the doctrine has become necessary.

The President noted that the situation in the international political arena has changed significantly in recent years and the old document did not take into account a number of nuances.
