Zakharova assessed the role of the United States as a peacemaker in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about the role of the United States in the current conflict in the Middle East.
According to Maria Zakharova, the role of peacemaker is not very suitable for Washington, since it only pushed the parties to the conflict to the brink.
The representative of the Foreign Ministry expressed this opinion in a conversation with Sputnik journalists.
Zakharova recalled that at one time the US single-handedly decided to manage the situation that had developed in the Middle East. Moreover, Washington did this despite international law.
As a result, it was precisely this decision that led to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. And now Iran has also become involved in the confrontation, having launched about 400 rockets at Israel last night.
As Zakharova noted, the US came to the Middle East region as a peacemaker. And it was in this capacity that all their efforts to maintain peace led to the opposite result.
The role of peacemaker has once again pushed this region to the brink of collapse, Zakharova added in conclusion.
