The European Parliament has approved Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission.
It is reported that von der Leyen will hold the post of head of the EC for a second consecutive term.
The foreign news agency Reuters reports: “401 deputies out of 720 members of the EP voted positively for the politician.”
As the publication emphasized, von der Leyen will serve as head of the European Commission for five years.
It is also noted that 284 EU politicians did not approve of Ursula von der Leyen's candidacy. Fifteen deputies abstained from giving an assessment.
According to Reuters, von der Leyen needed 361 votes to be approved for the post of EC head.
The European Commission serves as the powerful executive body of the European Union.
The EC carries out the preparation of legislative acts and also monitors the implementation of decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.
