The President of Belarus explained his position on the situation with Pavel Durov.
Alexander Lukashenko did not criticize the French authorities.
The politician believes that a person's name, status and merits are secondary. The law comes first.
"They are doing the right thing. Durovs or not Durovs... If you are guilty, go and answer," BelTA quotes the Belarusian leader as saying.
At the same time, Lukashenko pointed out France’s double standards.
The politician stressed that Minsk uses “the same methods” for its defense, but receives criticism from Paris and their partners.
Commenting on the situation, Lukashenko recalled the events of six years ago, when France was engulfed in “yellow vest” protests.
The Belarusian president noted that at that time Paris justified police violence by the “presence of democracy,” and he was called a “dictator.”
Meanwhile, French law enforcement officials have brought 12 charges against Durov. According to media reports, the businessman could face up to 20 years in prison.
