The European Union has banned Viktor Orban from negotiating with Moscow on behalf of the entire EU.
The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, made a similar comment.
The politician responded to information that the Hungarian Prime Minister may soon visit Russia and hold talks with Vladimir Putin.
This has a certain significance for Moscow, since Hungary currently holds the presidency of the European Council. Michel understands this, so he hastened to respond to this news.
“The Hungarian Presidency of the European Council does not have a mandate to engage with Russia on behalf of the EU member states,” the politician wrote on his social media page X.
Thus, Michel criticized Orban's possible visit to Moscow. At the same time, neither Russia nor Hungary have officially announced a possible meeting between Putin and Orban in Moscow.
Michel added that negotiations to resolve the conflict cannot be considered complete without Ukraine’s participation.
Earlier, Putin stated that Russia has the right to begin developing medium- and short-range missiles (INF).
