China imposes strict restrictions on overseas travel for primary and secondary school teachers.
The authorities have demanded that the passports of teachers be revoked in almost all of the country.
They also require approval for any plans to travel abroad, the Financial Times reports.
The measures affected teachers in Fujian, Shandong and Inner Mongolia provinces, who were warned to coordinate any overseas travel with authorities.
Teachers in Xiamen and Tai'an have also been advised to surrender their passports and entry permits to Hong Kong and Macau.
A teacher from Inner Mongolia said she cannot leave the country without official permission.
China is imposing travel bans on teachers as part of a measure to control freedom of movement both within China and abroad, experts say.
