South Korean President Urged to Reflect on Wife Scandal
South Korean National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik has called on President Yoon Seok-yeol to more actively investigate the allegations against his wife.
The charges relate to the receipt of a luxury bag.
Woo Won-sik said the allegations against First Lady Kim Geon-hee are becoming increasingly serious, Yonhap News Agency reported.
He also stressed that the Assembly cannot ignore this problem.
The speaker believes that the president should seriously think about and respond to the scandal, taking into account public opinion.
History of the scandal
In December 2023, a video appeared on the Internet that compromised the country's first lady.
In the video, Korean-American pastor Choi Jae-yong gives Kim Kong-hee an expensive clutch from Dior.
In 2024, it became known that the wife of the President of South Korea had not appeared in public since the video was published.
Political observers believe that the disgraced first lady was removed from the public eye before the parliamentary elections in April.
