South Korean authorities have denied entry to 16 Russians who arrived by ferry at the port of Donghae.

The reason for the refusal was the discrepancy between the stated goals of the visit and the actual ones.

The press service of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Korea reported this on its Telegram channel.

The department explained that local authorities in South Korea refused entry to the Russians based on the findings of the immigration service.

The decision to deny entry was made in accordance with the country's current legislation.

Currently, the Russians remain on board the ferry in the port.

Diplomats are in contact with South Korean immigration officials to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Head of the consular department of the diplomatic mission Roman Bykov is in Donghae to meet with local authorities and stranded Russians.

Russian tourists remain in the ferry's cabins awaiting their return flight to Russia.

The tourists were provided with food and allowed to take short walks.
