The President has decided to increase the number of staff members of the Russian Armed Forces.
Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding decree on Monday, September 16.
The document is posted on the website of the official publication of legal acts.
The number of the Russian Armed Forces will be increased to 2,389,130 people from December 1, 2024. Of these, 1.5 million are military personnel.
The presidential decree increases the number of military personnel by 180 thousand people.
The head of state set a separate task for the government. The Cabinet of Ministers must provide the Ministry of Defense with funds to implement Decree No. 792.
The last time a decision was made to expand the Armed Forces was in December last year. At that time, the number of servicemen was 1.3 million, with a total of 2,209,130 people.
Last week, Putin commented on Western countries' intentions to approve the use of their weapons to strike deep into Russia.
The President emphasized that the adoption of such a decision would make the West a full-fledged participant in the conflict.
The Russian Federation will have to make decisions based on new threats, the head of state noted.
