The political scientist commented on the introduction of sanctions by the United States against Russian media.

According to the expert, such steps are aimed at suppressing any existing opposition.

Political scientist Keith Preston stated this in a conversation with RIA Novosti journalists.

Preston recalled that restrictions were imposed on the following media outlets:

  • Russia today;
  • RIA Novosti;
  • RT;
  • Sputnik;
  • Ruptly.

The reason for imposing restrictions was alleged interference in the upcoming US elections and opposition to the administration of the current head of the White House, Joe Biden.

The fact that these media outlets have been subject to anti-Russian sanctions indicates that Washington is trying to suppress freedom of speech.

As an example of such behavior, Preston cited a lawsuit filed against the African People's Socialist Party, whose members are considered Russian agents.

The expert did not rule out that if the Democratic Party loses the elections, the US will have another reason to blame Russia.
