Poland to triple number of troops on Belarus border
The decision that was made in Poland has become known.
The country intends to significantly increase the military contingent located on the border with Belarus.
RIA Novosti reported this on July 18, citing official information received from the Polish Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that currently about 6 thousand Polish soldiers serve on the border with the republic.
As the republic’s military department clarified, one of the missions is a training mission, and the second is present at the border to protect it.
However, from August 1, the situation will change dramatically. An operation called "safe Podlasie" will be launched, within the framework of which about 17 thousand military personnel will be sent to the Belarusian-Polish border.
It is specified that the mission to ensure border security will be carried out by the 18th Mechanized Division.
This decision by the Polish military may be related to the difficult situation with migrants. Since 2021, illegal immigrants have been trying to enter the EU territory every day by violating the Polish border.
