The British publication The Spectator stated that the European Union will not be able to force Hungary to stop issuing visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus.
As the newspaper emphasized, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban knows that Europe has no leverage over Budapest.
The Spectator writes: “Hungary is a member of the EU, so it cannot be subject to any harsh punitive measures.”
According to the news agency, Europe's bureaucracy has turned against itself.
The Spectator adds: "Neither the European Parliament nor the European Commission will be able to put real pressure on Hungary."
The newspaper also expressed confidence that Orban had chosen “the best time to popularize the agenda he is adhering to.”
The rules of the European Union state that each member country of the alliance is able to determine its own migration policy.
It follows from this statement that punitive measures of influence in this matter cannot be applied to a specific state.
