In Georgia, Zurabishvili demonstratively walked in front of parliament
President Salome Zurabishvili walked in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi.
She walked along Rustaveli Avenue surrounded by security guards.
Zurabishvili did not make any statements, only briefly answered journalists’ questions, RIA Novosti writes.
Protesters gathered in front of parliament greeted her appearance on the avenue with applause.
Zurabishvili headed to the presidential palace Orbeliani, explaining that she was going to work.
Presidential elections began in Georgia today. This time, the president will be chosen by a 300-member electoral college.
Today, the candidate for the post of President of Georgia is former football player and MP Mikheil Kavelashvili.
Four opposition parties refused to work in the legislative body, calling the recent elections rigged.
President Zurabishvili will most likely not step down as president.
She stated that it is impossible to hold legitimate presidential elections with an illegitimate parliament.
Zurabishvili said that she is the legitimate representative of the authorities in the country.
In response to this, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that she would have to cede the residence to the legitimately elected president.
