The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for former Defense Minister Gallant for war crimes in Gaza.

The ICC Pre-Trial Chamber rejected Israel's arguments of lack of jurisdiction.

The court announced the issuance of an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant on the social network X (formerly Twitter, banned in Russia).

The ICC said there were reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant committed a war crime in Gaza.

The court said Netanyahu and Gallant had knowingly violated international humanitarian law against Gazans, actions that could have caused death.

In September, Israel filed a formal objection to the ICC over the legality of the prosecutor's request for arrest warrants. However, the court still issued arrest warrants for the prime minister and former defense minister.

The chamber noted, however, that Israel's recognition of the court's jurisdiction is not mandatory.
