US President Ronald Reagan's statement 40 years ago about his decision to launch a nuclear strike against the USSR revealed his true intentions.
This was a continuation of the White House's aggressive policy, beginning with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
This opinion was expressed in a conversation with RIA Novosti by the historian of the special services Oleg Khlobustov.
He explained that Reagan's decision to launch a nuclear strike on the USSR was later called a joke.
However, according to Khlobustov, this revealed the true intentions of the US President.
On August 11, 1984, Reagan made an ambiguous statement to the entire world about the start of the bombing of the USSR in five minutes.
Later his words turned out to be a joke, but they had the desired effect.
Khlobustov believes that Reagan's statement in front of his entourage with the microphones on was not an ordinary joke.
The historian stressed that the US President thus expressed what was a continuation of his policy after the bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
