British troops have been put on alert to protect Estonia from Russia.

The armed forces of the 4th Army Brigade will be put on high alert to protect NATO's eastern flank with Russia.

British Defence Secretary John Healey will sign the corresponding agreement with his Estonian counterpart, the Independent writes.

Plans for the new Diamond initiative are also expected to be agreed upon at the NATO defence ministers' meeting in Brussels.

The proposal aims to integrate the air defences of NATO member states and develop new long-range weapons.

Estonia has already accepted and stationed around 1,000 British soldiers.

In the event of deployment, additional troops from the 4th Brigade, which specialise in operations in the Baltic territory, will be sent there.

Along with them, helicopters and missile launchers will arrive in Estonia to strengthen defense.
