The Moscow City Court overturned the suspended sentences of doctors convicted of the death of an infant in a maternity hospital.

The case materials have been sent for a new review.

In July, the Gagarinsky Court of Moscow sentenced four doctors, RIA Novosti emphasized in its report.

The obstetrician-gynecologist was given a suspended sentence of 1.5 years. The head of the pregnancy pathology department and another obstetrician-gynecologist were released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

The neonatologist was also found guilty of document forgery, but was released from punishment.

The case concerns events that took place in 2018. At that time, a pregnant woman was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of chronic fetal hypoxia.

The investigation established that the doctors did not take into account the medical records and ultrasound data during the operation. As a result of the birth, the baby suffered multiple injuries and died.

The verdict was appealed by the prosecutor and the defense.

The prosecution insisted on overturning the sentence due to the doctors' violations of instructions. The defense argued that no cause-and-effect relationship had been established between the doctors' errors and the infant's death.

The Moscow City Court acknowledged that there was a contradiction in the case materials. By the court's decision, the case was sent for a new trial.

The doctors are still under travel restrictions.
