The defendant in the criminal case could have fled abroad before his arrest.

Details of the case of the head of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Pantheon of Fatherland Defenders" of the Russian Ministry of Defense Vyacheslav Filippov became known on Thursday, September 12.

A Moscow court has ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody until November 10, 2024, RIA Novosti reports.

Filippov is suspected of receiving a bribe of an especially large amount (from 1 million rubles) from a company that produces monuments. The amounts in question have not yet been disclosed.

It is noted that Filippov has a foreign passport. Because of this, the investigation has grounds to believe that the defendant in the case may hide from justice abroad.

Therefore, it was decided to petition for arrest. The court refused the defense to send the accused under house arrest and remanded him in custody. The defendant himself did not admit guilt.

The "Pantheon of Defenders of the Fatherland" is located in Mytishchi, Moscow Region.

The site is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense and is considered the largest military cemetery and memorial.

Filippov managed the facility for five years. He could face up to 15 years in prison for the crime he committed.
