Former Investigative Committee Investigator Tambiev Sentenced to 16 Years in Prison for Record Bribe

It has become known that a sentence has been passed on a former law enforcement officer.

A court in the Moscow region sentenced Marat Tambiev to 16 years of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.

This information was shared by a RIA Novosti correspondent who was in the courtroom of the Balashikha City Court of the Moscow Region.

In addition to imprisonment, the former justice official is prohibited from holding public office for 12 years. He will be required to pay a fine of 500 million rubles.

The court also ordered that the defendant be stripped of his rank of Major of Justice.

Circumstances of the case

According to the investigation, Tambiev, together with his subordinate Kristina Lyakhovenko, were engaged in blackmailing hackers from the Infraud Organization group.

The former investigators extorted a bribe in bitcoins equivalent to 7.3 billion rubles. After receiving 2,718 bitcoins, the defendants in the case did not seize the rest of the cryptocurrency and turn it into state revenue.

It is noted that the above-mentioned bribe amount is a record for Russia.
