The long-awaited moment has arrived when every person finally wants to try ripe watermelons.

However, even in August you can encounter fruits full of nitrates.

Let's figure out how to understand that the berries you bought are full of harmful substances.

How to check watermelon for nitrates

The first thing you need to do is fill a basin with water and lower your purchase into it.

If the berry floats immediately, it means that there are few or no hazardous substances in its composition. If the watermelon sinks to the bottom of the container, it means that it is full of nitrates.

If you bought a cut berry, then you can check it piece by piece.

To do this, pour a glass of water and put the pulp in it. If the product in front of you is of high quality, the water will remain transparent. However, any hints of red or any other shade indicate the low quality of the purchased watermelon.

You can also try the old-fashioned method with iodine. Put a drop of antiseptic on the watermelon pulp and wait a bit. Any reaction with blue or green color indicates the presence of foreign impurities.
