In private houses, panel houses and Khrushchev-era buildings, wooden floors often creak because these are old buildings.

There are several simple ways to deal with this problem yourself.

When the flooring comes off the beam, a creaking sound appears, which means the floor needs to be reinforced.

Use wedges to insert them into the spaces between the boards and joists.

If you have access to the crawl space, this method will work. One person walks along the floor and finds the creaking place. The other is below. He greases the wedges with wood glue and inserts them into the blockage so that they do not fall out and do not swing.

If the creaking occurs along a whole board or along a beam (an element of the supporting structure that rests on both ends), then treat the gap with wood glue and place a weight on these boards.

Laminate flooring and plywood subfloors can sometimes warp and deviate from the joists, creating a space between the plywood and the supporting beams.

When walking, a creaking sound appears; to avoid this, you need to pierce the laminate and plywood sheets with nails.

First, lift and coat the base with wood glue. Then attach it to the subfloor with screws or nails.

Strengthen the boards with wooden blocks if the joists are the cause. Install the blocks in the middle of the joists and treat their edges with wood glue. Then hammer in nails or screws.

Strengthen the wooden floor from the inside. It is necessary to eliminate the friction of the subfloor against the covering. Small screws are needed here, screw them under the floor. Watch that they do not come out of the covering on the field, otherwise another problem will appear.

In some cases, it is impossible to reach the floor from below. Pour talc into the creaking boards, cracks and rub the product in there. When the gaps between the coverings are filled, you will not hear the creaking.

When the floor is covered with linoleum, make small holes in the flooring and hammer in screws or nails. If the parquet creaks, screw it to the base with screws and hide the holes with mastic.

Study these tips carefully, choose the right one, strengthen the floor and then the creaking will go away. If you do it yourself, you will not need to invite a specialist, and you will save money.
