The most common cause of an unpleasant smell from a washing machine is mold.
Front loading machines are more susceptible to mold.
Unlike vertical loading devices, they use little water for the washing process. This results in the powder being poorly washed out and remaining on the internal parts of the drum.
And after the next wash, dirt from the clothes appears on the sediment. And this leads to bacteria appearing there.
This is not the only reason for mold to appear. Sometimes it is caused by blockages in the drain pipe or hose. In this case, liquid stagnation occurs, which provokes the appearance of a musty "aroma".
1. Washing at high temperatures. Often mold appears as a result of using gentle modes. And this is usually no higher than 40 degrees.
To remove mold from the inside of the washing machine, use the maximum temperature wash cycle. The drum and powder compartment should remain empty. Hot water will be enough to clean the machine.
2. If this does not help, you can repeat the process with any of the simple means:
- vinegar and soda. To do this, you need to combine water with soda in any proportions, pour the product into the powder compartment, and vinegar into the drum;
3. Cleaning the rubber cuff. After washing, not only the remains of liquid with foam may remain on it, but also lint from things, hair, etc. To do this, you need to combine water with vinegar in a 1:1 ratio and, putting on rubber gloves, wipe everything with a cloth.
The surface of the cuff. For high-quality cleaning of the rubber, it is necessary to move it to wash all the places where dirt can accumulate.
4. Wash the tray thoroughly. To do this, take it out and put it in a bowl with warm water and powder. After a while, remove the remaining powder with a rag.
If mold has accumulated on the tray, it can be removed with a chlorine solution and a brush. For hard-to-reach places, you can use an old toothbrush.
We previously talked about how often you should wash your pajamas so that it doesn't become an impractical waste.
