How to Clean a Smartwatch Properly: Avoid Common Mistakes

25.03.2024 13:10

A person wears a smart watch every day, and it comes into contact with the skin, sweat, dust and all kinds of dirt.

And no matter how clean you are, sooner or later your watch will get dirty.

Therefore, they need to be cleaned from time to time. In principle, it is not that difficult, but you need to know how to do it correctly.

So, for this you will need the following items:

  • several microfiber cloths;
  • soft brush;
  • cup of water;
  • soap or detergent;
  • cotton swab;
  • cotton pad;
  • alcohol solution.

Microfiber cloths are needed to clean and dry your smartwatch. The brush is useful for removing dust, sand, and other dirt.

A cotton swab is great for cleaning the physical buttons on your watch, and a cotton pad works great when combined with an alcohol solution.

Turn off the clock

The first step is simple: turn off the gadget. This is necessary so as not to accidentally press the virtual buttons during cleaning.

In addition, the watch should not be connected to a charger.

Cleaning the case

Use a brush to remove dust. Be careful as dust may contain sand particles. Wipe carefully to avoid scratching the device.

Next, it's time to clean the screen. Use a microfiber cloth for this.

If you don't have one at home, take a disinfectant wipe or a clean kitchen towel.

Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth and clean the watch screen using circular motions. Also include the case and back.

If the watch is completely waterproof, you can even wash it.

To do this, place them in a cup with soapy water and leave for a few minutes.

Warning! Be careful with cleaning agents. Never use chemically active substances (acetone, paint thinner, etc.). You can only use a 70% alcohol solution, but with caution: for example, apply a few drops to a microfiber cloth or cotton pad and gently wipe the watch.

Once all the dirt has dissolved or been removed, take a second microfiber cloth and blot and dry the screen, body, and back.

Cleaning the buttons

If your smartwatch has a physical button on the case (for example, to set the time), there is a good chance that over time it will become harder to press or will start to stick due to dirt.

The best way to clean it is to wipe it with a clean microfiber cloth.

In case of significant contamination, you can use a cotton swab slightly moistened with alcohol solution. However, this should be done carefully, moving the swab from the body to the button.

Cleaning the bracelet

When cleaning a smartwatch, people often forget about the bracelet, which is bad because it is the one that comes into the most contact with the body.

Unclasp the bracelet and brush off any dust or sand that may be left on it. Then use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the strap.

If necessary, you can moisten this cloth with water or alcohol solution.

Be careful with leather bracelets because they are very sensitive to water and deteriorate quickly.
