Can You Machine Wash Trousers Without the Risk of Ruining Them: What You Need to Know

Pants, suits and similar garments are labeled "dry clean only" for a variety of reasons.

First of all, because machine washing can cause internal damage to parts and adhesives that cannot be repaired without the help of professionals.

The internal structures and shapes of some trousers and jackets are achieved through stretching and shrinking during the manufacturing process.

Machine washing such clothes will ruin these characteristics of the fabric forever.

Before washing, first read the instructions on the label. If the manufacturer allows machine washing, then wash the pants without fear.

As a general rule, trousers made of wool, silk or linen should not be machine washed as this may damage the fabric.

However, some trousers made from durable, simple fabrics, including cotton and polyester, can be machine washed if you follow the instructions.

If you are unsure about the result, it is safer to wash them by hand or take them to a professional dry cleaner.

Wash pants in cold water with mild detergent using the gentlest wash cycle.

Remove the garment from the machine immediately after the cycle has finished and lay it flat to dry.

Be sure to wash your trousers inside out and dry them as directed to avoid damaging their colour.
