Finding a truly delicious watermelon is actually not such an easy task.
However, if you know what signs distinguish a truly ripe fruit, then choosing a tasty watermelon will not be difficult.
Pay attention to the color of the fruit. Its skin should be dull, as this is a sign of ripeness. If the watermelon is shiny, it means it was picked unripe.
In addition, the ripeness of the watermelon is indicated by the presence of veins. The more of them, the sweeter it is.
Look for a watermelon with a large yellow spot on one side. This indicates that it has been ripening longer on the vine and is ripe. If the field spot is white or orange, the fruit is either underripe or overripe.
Give the watermelon a tap. A ripe berry will produce a deep sound, while a hollow sound may indicate that the fruit has lost liquid as it ripened.
The rind of the watermelon should be solid and firm, and its shape should be symmetrical. Fruits with unusual shapes may not have the texture and taste you expect.
