A court in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) found the trio guilty of attempting to carry out a coup d'état, criminal conspiracy and other crimes.

In total, about 40 people were sentenced to death, including British, Canadians, and Belgians.

Initially, there were more defendants. It is known that thirteen people managed to justify themselves and avoid punishment.

The rebel leader was killed in the operation to suppress the coup. Two other rebels and two police officers were also killed.

The death penalty has not been carried out in Congo for about 20 years. But in March 2024, authorities said they would use it to combat militants.
