The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Lipetsk Region has opened a criminal case on the negligence of officials of the penal colony after the escape of six prisoners.
The case was opened under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to investigators, the convicts, who were serving their sentences in a penal colony in the Lipetsk region, escaped through an underground tunnel.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 25, and the fugitives are currently being actively sought, the Telegram channel of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Lipetsk Region reports.
The department emphasized that the investigation is identifying specific officials of the colony whose actions led to the escape.
Investigative measures aimed at clarifying the circumstances of the escape, detaining the fugitives and identifying instances of negligence on the part of officials in the penal colony are ongoing.
