Russian Youth Wrestling Team Coach Detained in Terrorism Case

Investigators have detained the coach of the Russian youth freestyle wrestling team, Alisheri Ismatzoda.

The Russian Wrestling Federation confirmed this information on Monday, July 1.

The coach's name appears in a case of assisting terrorists, TASS reports.

Investigators have reason to believe that Ismatzoda is involved in inciting, recruiting or otherwise involving individuals in terrorist activities (Part 1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Law enforcement officers are petitioning to have the detainee remanded in custody. Other details of the case have not yet been disclosed.

Ismatzoda was born in 1992 in Dushanbe (Tajikistan). He holds the title of Master of Sports and is a top-class trainer.

The specialist prepared students from the Moscow Secondary Specialized School of Olympic Reserve No. 1 for competitions.

In addition, Ismatzoda works as a coach for the Russian youth team (girls under 16) and the Moscow youth team (boys under 16).

In May 2024, his 15-year-old protégé Musa Santikov won the gold medal at the European Championship.
